A model sufficiency test using permutation entropy

چکیده

Using the ordinal-pattern concept in permutation entropy, we propose a model sufficiency test to study given model's point prediction accuracy. Compared with some classical tests, such as Broock et al.'s (1996) test, our proposal does not require sufficient eliminate all structures exhibited estimated residuals. When innovations investigated data's underlying dynamics show certain structure, higher moment serial dependence, can lead erroneous conclusions about of predictors. Due structured innovations, inconsistency between tests and accuracy criteria occur. Our fills this incoherence evaluation approaches remains valid when process has nonwhite additive innovation.

A Non-Parametric Independence Test Using Permutation Entropy

In the present paper we construct a new, simple and powerful test for independence by using symbolic dynamics and permutation entropy as a measure of serial dependence. We also give the asymptotic distribution of an affine transformation of the permutation entropy under the null hypothesis of independence. An application to several daily financial time series illustrates our approach.

Permutation entropy

Permutation entropy is computationally efficient, robust to outliers, and effective to measure complexity of time series. We used this technique to quantify the complexity of continuous vital signs recorded from patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Using permutation entropy calculated from early vital signs (initial 10~20% of patient hospital stay time), we built classifiers to predict i...

Computing Efficiency, Sufficiency, and Self-sufficiency: A Model for Sustainability?

Computing is an activity that is based on natural resources like any other human activity. Technological progress has made it possible to perform more and more computations with less material and energy input. This paper looks at this development through the lens of the three concepts of efficiency, sufficiency, and self-sufficiency, asking the question of whether it could lead to a state of se...

A permutation test for the race model inequality.

When participants are asked to respond in the same way to several stimulus identities, responses are often observed to be faster if two stimuli are presented simultaneously as opposed to when a single stimulus is presented (redundant signals effect; Miller, 1982). An important issue of such experiments is whether the observed redundancy gains can be explained by parallel processing of the two s...

A Permutation Test for Matching

We consider a permutation method for testing whether observations given in their natural pairing exhibits an unusual level of similarity in situations where any two observations may be similar at some unknown baseline level. Under a null hypotheses where there is no distinguished pairing of the observations, a normal approximation, with explicit bounds and rates, is presented for determining ap...
